Since I have decided the pastries in Italy are some of the BEST pastries I have ever not only eaten but have dreamed of eating, I thought it was only right to dedicate a single blog to these pastries. The pictures don’t do them justice but they will make your mouth water and may even get you on a plane to Italy in the near future!
Enjoy…:)
My top three favorite pastries in Italy:
THE Cannoli-mouth watering
Lobster tail- crispy on the outside and moist and creamy on the inside. Pastry cream is stuffed inside.
Tortina Mini Bongo- 3 mini cream puffs with melted chocolate on top. The cup holding them is equally as good.
Secrete Bakeries:
Many of you who have been to Florence have also probably heard of the whispers of the “Secrete Bakeries” in Florence. Some of the bakeries are not so secrete anymore while others are out of the tourists eyes and more difficult to find. These bakeries are typically open in the middle of the night first opening around 1 AM. Most of these bakeries are wholesale bakeries which means they are closed during the day but are working hard at night to prepare for the restaurants and cafes all throughout the city. If you are in search of a secrete bakery follow the sweet scent of fresh crossants and you will be pleased as to what you find. These 1 euro pastries are usually hot, fresh, moist, tasty, delicouse…well you get the idea. Make sure to be quiet when waiting in line. Many of these bakeries are located close to apartments where people are sleeping. If the bakeries customers are too loud, they may close the shop! SHHH!!
Secrete Bakery:
Pasticceria Vinci & Bongini {Santa Croce}-Walk down Via dei Benci towards the river, making a right onto Pizza Peluzzi. Make the first left then first right onto Via del Canto Rivalto. If you’re the first one there, knock softly on the door until a baker (maybe be ornery :)) appears. The Cornetta con Nutella is great!
Laboratorio di Pasticceria Fratelli Arrighi-near piazza San Marco, is on the corner of via delle Ruote and via San Gallo. Look for the big vending machines, where you can buy a bottle of water or coffee to go with your late-night treat. The door opens around 2am.
My roommate Alex and I !!
My friends enjoyng their Cornetta con Nutella 🙂
Oooo Niki, the pastries look wonderful. I am going out my door right now in Springboro Ohio to our local DLM grocery to buy a yummmmy pastry.
Lots of love,
Aunt Maria
Hey I know this is off topic but I was wondering if you knew of any
widgets I could add to my blog that automatically
tweet my newest twitter updates. I’ve been looking for
a plug-in like this for quite some time and was hoping maybe you would have some experience with something
like this. Please let me know if you run into anything.
I truly enjoy reading your blog and I look forward to your new updates.
Hey! I’m not the best with computers, just the basics unfortunately. I wish I could help. Happy blogging!!
